This morning I was driving home following a 12 hour night shift and was following a man driving an austin mini. He was speeding of course and hit a dog that ran in front of him. He had no intention of stoping, until I pulled over and he stopped and came back. His first issue was looking at his car for damage, not the dog on the side of the road in a snow bank. I ran to the dog who I later found out was named "Reggie" as I told the other man to find the owner.

I moved reggie to my car and placed her in the back seat. She was badly hurt, but I did what I could to save her, we found the owners but they didn't even really care, the neighbor however came out in tears and got me a blanket to use on reggie so I could put a coat back on. I stayed with reggie till the end, and stroked her lightly letting her know someone cared.

At first I thought what a disgrace, and why on christmas eve morning would I be put there and see such as sad thing. I then realised, had I not been put there at that time, reggie would have been left in that ditch to die in pain and terrified. I couldn't save her, but at least I was able to let her know she was loved and she was safe in my arms her last moments in life.
